Size:
The finished dimensions for the cockatrice are:
24 in (70 cm) Long (Beak to tip of tail),
13 1/2 in (34 1/4 cm) Tall (crest to toes)
7 in (17 3/4cm) wide (at widest point)
Skill Level (7/10):
This pattern is an intermediate to advanced pattern. It requires a good deal of pivoting, sewing of opposing curves, and hand sewing. This pattern also recommends the use of faux fur which can present a challenge to those who have never worked with it before. This is a relatively complicated and detailed plush, so it will take some time to complete, especially for those who are less comfortable with some of the techniques used. If you are inexperienced with any of the steps, we recommend taking your time and hand sewing which will help your overall understanding and accuracy.
Fabric information:
The scale fabric used on the plushies shown in this pattern is called cobbled velvet. It was a seasonal item sold at Joann Fabrics during fall/Halloween. We are not sure if it will be coming back. The only color available year round appears to be black which is available online for order.
If you are looking for other options for scale material, you can use quilted material, embroider minky yourself, or even sequined fabric (but please read up on working with it first though). If you choose to use very stretchy material such as scale printed spandex, just make sure you use interfacing on low temperature to stabilize.
